About FIRS

Held since 2007, the International Forum of Solid Waste - FIRS started to have annual periodicity in 2013, where in the even years it is carried out in Rio Grande do Sul, its state of origin, and in the odd years it is itinerant. Organized by the Venturi Institute for Environmental Studies, FIRS is consolidated as an important technical-scientific event held in Brazil on issues related to solid waste. It ranges from academic studies to government and business.

The FIRS goes beyond its goal of presenting methods, technologies, scientific production and good practices for non-generation, reduction, reuse, recycling, treatment and environmentally sound disposal for solid waste. It is a meeting to share knowledge in search of a better quality of life. It has the qualified vision of the professors of the University of Brasília (UnB), the University of Vale dos Sinos River (Unisinos) and the Federal Technological University of Paraná (UTFPR) in the construction of capacities.

In the last three years, under the academic coordination of the Polytechnic School of Unisinos, the submission of scientific works has been growing in number and quality, promoting the exchange between scientific production and public and private investors to motivate the emergence of new technology-based companies. To commemorate its 10 years of accomplishment the FIRS gathered the scientific papers published in the Annals of all its editions in a single platform. The content is expected to help stimulate and disseminate the authors' scientific output, providing access to good quality research.
